Lambert Airport relocation guide

Where to live near Lambert depends on whether the airport is your job—or just part of your life.

If you work at the airport every day, shaving ten minutes off the drive can matter. If you fly twice a month but work in Clayton or Downtown, living directly beside Lambert may solve the wrong problem.

First decide which problem you are solving

Airport employee and frequent flyer are different housing searches.

I work at or around Lambert

Start close. Bridgeton, St. Ann, Hazelwood and Maryland Heights deserve the first look because your commute happens every workday. Then decide whether moving a little farther away buys enough housing, neighborhood feel or access to the rest of the metro to justify it.

I travel constantly

Do not let the airport dominate the whole housing decision. Olivette, University City, Richmond Heights, Brentwood and other central communities can keep Lambert practical while also shortening trips to Clayton, Cortex, the medical campus or Downtown.

Drive time

Use the actual terminal, employee entrance or parking facility. Airport campuses add internal travel time that a map pin does not show. If you work shifts, test the route at the hour you will really travel.

MetroLink

The Red Line serves both Lambert terminals and runs east through UMSL, Delmar Loop, Forest Park, Central West End and Downtown. That can make a rail-based airport routine possible from selected locations.

Frequent flying

For a frequent flyer, airport access is a quality-of-life factor—not necessarily the only factor. Compare how often you go to Lambert with how often you go everywhere else.

Three mistakes I’d avoid
1

Choosing the closest municipality to the airport without checking what that does to every other trip in your week.

2

Comparing distance to “Lambert” without knowing which terminal, employee lot or worksite you will actually use.

3

Assuming MetroLink works for your airport routine because a station exists nearby. Ride the complete trip and check current service alerts.

Want to solve airport access together with the rest of your move?

Put Lambert plus your real work location, housing needs and must-haves into the relocation planner. That is a better search than simply drawing a circle around the airport.
